Sowing the Seeds for the Future

You would be amazed at the leadership opportunities Mason Public Schools offers students- implicitly in the arts, sports, robotics, and even in the classroom. Additionally, you would be impressed with the explicit leadership offerings for elementary through high school students. I have observed them all in action, and I can attest they are having some remarkable experiences and doing some show stopping things in our community!

Steele and Alaiedon elementary schools have student councils; North Aurelius Elementary has a Fifth-Grade Leadership Team, and the middle school has a leadership class. The high school not only has a leadership offering, but this year it has added an after-school Rotary Club. When I attended a meeting, I was blown away by the level of professionalism!

The elementary student councils worked on Teacher Appreciation Week this year while the leadership team at North Aurelius implemented a major recycling initiative. The middle school leadership class went to Steele Elementary to meet with their first grade reading buddies and the Junior Rotarians have taken on a community clean up and are collaborating with the Senior Rotarians Club on an upcoming golf outing - stay tuned!

Words cannot totally capture the enthusiasm that permeated the learning spaces where the varied and remarkable seeds are being sown for these young leaders of the future. They are developing organizational skills, public speaking, problem solving, decision making, empathy, collaboration – the list goes on and on. Of course, none of this could occur without our dedicated teachers who go above and beyond!

Mason Public Schools believes every student has the ability to lead. Leadership is taking root through service, creativity, teamwork, mentorship and so much more. Sowing these seeds today promises a bountiful harvest in the future!
