Behind the Scenes
Family and friends of students at North Aurelius and Alaiedon Elementaries were treated to outstanding performances of “The Jungle Book” and “The Aristocrat Kids” this spring, but you better believe these performances didn’t just suddenly happen. The real work occurred behind the scenes with long rehearsals, set construction, costume preparations and more!
Our elementary students spent countless hours with their dedicated teachers practicing songs, choreography and dialogue. Whether learning harmonies, memorizing lines or practicing routines, they developed discipline and creativity through the performing arts.
I observed up close how excitement was building as the actors and actresses balanced nerves and anticipation while preparing for the big night – by the way, standing room only!
Fast forward to the cast parties where every performer was recognized. Along with treats, the cast relaxed, laughed and reflected on the memories they had created together. Feedback from our performers was off the charts positive! For example, several mentioned the “Disney experience” changed their in-school behavior, enhanced their confidence levels, positively impacted their academic success and even influenced their school attendance.
While the Disney shows may have lasted only an hour, the lessons, memories and friendships created behind the scenes will potentially last a lifetime.
