Resident families are encouraged to register by March 15, 2025, for Fall 2025.
Resident families with children that will be 5 years of age by September 1 are encouraged to register now. Proof of Residency, Certified Birth Certificate, and Immunization records must be attached to the registration, or emailed to Karla Harkness. An in-person Round-Up will take place in May, by appointment. The Harvey office staff will reach out to all registered families to schedule a time.
Resident families with students enrolled in a Child Development Services Preschool Program are asked to do the following:
- Update your child's information in Skyward Family Access (Please do not re-enroll.)
- Notify Karla Harkness, HEC Secretary, of your intention to register your child for kindergarten.
- Provide Proof of Residency, Certified Birth Certificate, and Immunization record.
Non-resident families interested in kindergarten at Mason Public Schools may apply for Schools of Choice (SOC). Contact Jodi Somerville for a SOC application.
Teacher placements are posted via Skyward mid-August. Your child's teacher will email you their back-to-school newsletter, info, and more.

Youngs Fives Kindergarden
Mason Public Schools is proud to offer a Young Fives Kindergarten program designed to help children build a strong foundation for future success. This full-day program follows the same schedule and calendar as traditional kindergarten and is led by a certified teacher.
To be considered, children must turn 5 years old by December 1. The program is available to resident families only, and all requests must be submitted by March 15.
Enrollment is limited to 22 students. Placement decisions are based on a rubric, which you can view using the link below.
How Is Young Fives Different from Kindergarten?
Young Fives Kindergarten offers a developmentally appropriate curriculum designed for children who may benefit from an extra year of growth before starting traditional kindergarten. This child-centered program focuses on supporting social, emotional, academic, and physical development through hands-on, play-based learning.
The classroom builds on Preschool or Early Learning experiences and provides more time for foundational skills to develop. Students participate in free choice, whole group instruction, and targeted lessons in literacy, writing, and math. They also explore theme-based topics like science, social studies, art, and health.
Young Fives students enjoy a full school experience, including physical education, music, art, recess, and library each week—just like kindergarten students.
Process for Enrollment
Interested in-district families should register online for Kindergarten and complete an age waiver (provided via email). All incoming Kindergarten students and potential Young Fives Kindergarten students will traditionally participate in a May Kindergarten Round-Up appointment. Staff will gather data from observations, parent input, student school/childcare history and birthdate. A rubric for placement will be used to determine eligibility.
The Harvey Education Center Staff is committed to balancing all classrooms with the social, emotional and academic needs of all students considered. Families will be notified of students’ placement in Young Fives by June 1.
