Looking for an Expert?
I’m sure you’ve heard the old adage, “You have to travel 50 miles away to find an expert!”
Well, recently, that was proven wrong at Mason Middle School. Christen Lemmon and her entrepreneur class invited Jon Drosha, owner of Dairy Hill, to talk with the students about running a business. The level of engagement was off the charts!
Students had submitted their questions to Jon, making the time together seem incredibly collaborative. Besides submitting questions, there were several other factors at stake! This class runs the school store, and several students envision being business owners in the future as well as, in the short term, hope to get hired at Dairy Hill.
Jon shared the history of Dairy Hill, noting he started working there at age 12 – some fifty years ago! He shared insights about market surveys, principles associated with supply, demand, interest, pricing, profit margin and a host of other big ideas related to economics and finance - all of which are essential for being a successful business owner.
I can assure you, students left the session more knowledgeable and mindful about running their school store and what it takes to become a business owner. They were excited to plan a walk to Dairy Hill for a treat and possibly submit a job application for summer employment to see how a business functions!
Walking distance to meet the expert - it doesn’t get better!
