MPS Announces New Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services

Mason, MI – Mason Public Schools (MPS) has selected Randy Barton as the district’s new assistant superintendent of academic services. He will officially start on July 1, 2023, after departing Ovid-Elsie Area Schools where he is currently serving as superintendent.

Barton will join the district’s administration team and brings more than 20 years of experience as an educator having served as superintendent, associate superintendent, middle school principal, elementary school principal and classroom teacher, all with Ovid-Elsie.

“In addition to his vast experience in the classroom and as an administrator, Mr. Barton has a passion for instruction and a proven record of establishing strong relationships with stakeholders, families and students,” said Dr. Gary Kinzer, MPS superintendent.

During his time with Ovid-Elsie, Barton directed curriculum and instruction as well as oversaw grant programs, alternative education programs and English Language Learner programs. He also worked to connect district leadership and educators as well as led data-driven decision-making processes focused on improving achievement for all students.

The MPS Board of Education unanimously approved the selection of Barton after a statewide search to replace former curriculum director Matt Stuard who departed the district in April to fill the superintendent role at Fowlerville Public Schools.
