Summer Construction and Closures
This summer, construction will continue to take place at the middle school and high school; families and community members should expect limited access to the buildings. The following closures and changes are planned for the summer, actual closures may change based on project needs. Thank you for your patience!
- On June 6 and 7, there will be no access to offices at Mason High School. Beginning Monday, June 10, temporary offices will be open at the high school including counseling and athletics offices. Please see the planned closure map for details.
- The north parking lot at Mason High School will be closed during the summer, visitors should park on the south side of the building to walk around for access to tennis courts and other facilities on the north side of the building.
- Access to the middle school main office and entrance will be significantly impacted by construction projects throughout the summer, middle school families will receive information about how to contact staff over the summer if needed.

Throughout the school year, students and staff will take part in drills to practice the five actions in the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) which was implemented last year. The SRP uses clear, common language to explain five specific actions that can be taken during an emergency. By standardizing the vocabulary, school district officials, staff, students and emergency responders can understand the actions being taken and status of the event.
Drills are an essential part of keeping our school community ready for any situation. By taking part in drills, we:
- Build familiarity and “muscle memory” through regular practice to help students and staff respond calmly and efficiently
- Test current procedures and systems and allow us to evaluate and improve our emergency procedures
- Meet required state safety requirements
- Create confidence through practice. When everyone knows what to do, anxiety decreases and safety increases
Late-start Wednesdays begin on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. All school schedules will begin one hour later than normal following the schedule below. Buses will run one hour later than their usual schedule to pick up students.
- Mason High School: 8:40 a.m. - 2:35 p.m.
- Mason Middle School: 8:40 a.m. - 2:35 p.m.
- Alaiedon, North Aurelius, Steele and Harvey Education Center: 9:40 a.m. - 3:47 p.m.
Mason Public Schools (MPS) has posted signs near sinks and bottle filling stations in school buildings in compliance with Michigan's Filter First law. The signs are part of following the new state law, not because there is, or was, a problem with the drinking water in any MPS buildings.
Wednesday, August 26, 2026, is the first day of school for all students. The first day is a half day following the schedule below. We can't wait to welcome students back for a great school year!
Mason Public Schools (MPS) Board of Education (BOE) has selected Matt Hall to fill the vacant BOE position. Four individuals, including Hall, were interviewed for the position which will serve through the remainder of the current term and through the next regular school election cycle, ending in 2028.
