New Year, New Strategic Plan

The Mason Public Schools last developed a strategic plan in 2015. The time has come for the district to develop a new plan and our goal is to engage our community in numerous ways to create a plan that the Board of Education will be asked to approve by June 2023. The first step in this process is to collect information from numerous groups within our school community.

On Friday, January 6 an email will be sent to staff and families with an invitation to complete a short survey. The survey will remain open through the end of the day on Monday, January 16. The survey will provide participants the opportunity to inform the strategic plan anonymously from home.

In addition, the district will conduct in-person stakeholder forums on Wednesday, January 11. We hope that by providing two different options to provide input, we will receive great participation! The schedule for stakeholder forums is:

  • Administrators- 9 a.m. at Mason City Hall, Sycamore Room
  • Selected Middle School Students- 10:30 a.m. at Mason Middle School
  • Selected High School Students- 12:15 p.m. at Mason High
  • School Support Staff- 1:30 p.m. at Mason City Hall, Sycamore Room
  • Secondary Teachers- 2:30 p.m. at Mason City Hall, Sycamore Room Elementary
  • Teachers- 4:15 p.m. at Mason City Hall, Sycamore Room
  • Community Members- 5:30 p.m. at Mason City Hall, Sycamore Room

We are also in the process of developing a Strategic Planning Advisory Team. This group will meet later this school year to utilize the information collected through the survey and stakeholder forums to:

  • Update or reaffirm our vision and mission statements along with our core values.
  • Establish areas of focus for our strategic plan.
  • Draft a suggested strategic goal for each area of focus.

Our administrative team will also work to:

  • Establish objectives for each strategic goal.
  • Identify strategic actions that will be required to achieve each objective.
  • Determine how progress will be monitored.

Each part of this process will be presented to the Strategic Planning Advisory Team for review and feedback and then presented to the Board of Education for approval. We are excited to embark on this important work that will shape the focus of our district for the future. Thank you for your participation and input.
