Band Information for Incoming Sixth Grade Students

Incoming sixth grade students will have the opportunity to select a music elective, choosing between choir and band. To help students make an informed decision, the Mason Middle School music directors will visit all elementary schools for Meet and Greets. During this time, students will learn more about both programs, hear what classes will be like and have the chance to ask questions. A parent letter was sent home with all fifth grade students.

In addition, Marshall Music will visit each elementary building to conduct instrument fittings for students interested in band. These quick, individual fittings help determine which instrument best suits each child, setting them up for success as they begin their musical journey. Families are encouraged to review the FAQ for more information about the fitting process and program details.

After participating in the meet and greet and (if applicable) completing an instrument fitting, students will be asked to submit their music elective choice by March 6. Families are encouraged to wait until after these events before making a final selection.
