Who Says Mason Doesn’t Have a Year-Round Growing Season?
Periodically, throughout the year, there are days off for students. Many families, no doubt, need to reshuffle schedules for childcare. In addition, community members may simply be puzzled by the events.
Make no mistake, taxpayers’ money isn’t being wasted. Rather, it is used to directly benefit Mason Public Schools students in a host of ways by investing in training and growth for our teachers.
Just like in any other profession, teachers face changes. Whether changes are mandated, necessary or, in many cases, chosen to enhance what is already occurring, it is important to keep abreast of changes and associated training. Embracing the growth mindset, the district also adds new initiatives where appropriate to maintain a dynamic school.
Each year, we welcome new teachers to the profession and to our district. Teams, positions, and course assignments often change as well. At the same time, our students’ needs continue to evolve, requiring all of us to keep learning and growing together.
By utilizing these days off, the district can provide dedicated time and space for teacher training and professional development. Research shows a growth mindset for adults is a powerful way to maintain a healthy mental state. Carol Dweck, a highly acclaimed psychologist, researcher and author says, “A growth mindset promotes resilience and reduces symptoms of anxiety. Those with a growth mindset embrace challenge, persist through difficulties, achieve at higher levels and improve their self-concept and self-esteem.”
Days off to foster a year-round growing season in Mason? Is there any question?
