Changes to requirements for masking on buses
Late Friday afternoon, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced new guidance on the usage of masks on school buses. Effective Tuesday, March 1, wearing masks on a school bus or school transportation vehicle will now be a family choice and not a requirement for Mason Public Schools.
According to the CDC, this change is to align with updated guidance that no longer recommends universal indoor mask-wearing in K-12 schools and early education settings in areas with a low or medium COVID-19 community level. Ingham County currently falls within a low to moderate risk level. The CDC also noted that school systems, at their discretion, may choose to require that people wear masks on buses or school vans.
If Ingham County moves into a high-risk category, we may see changes in recommendations and requirements. We will continue to keep you updated as we become aware of any changes issued by the Ingham County Health Department, the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services, or the CDC.
