Elementary Schools Celebrate Inclusion Week

Mason elementary students celebrated Inclusion Week October 19-13, by learning about topics including courage, diversity, inclusion, equity and unity. Mason High School (MHS) students visited all three elementary buildings and the Harvey Education Center to cap off the week. The high school volunteers read books to classes to help bring the concepts students had learned to life through stories with similar messages.

High school and elementary students also took part in activities designed to build trust, help them learn more about one another and foster community in their classrooms. Each classroom visit also included a craft project completed by the elementary students.

To end the day, the high school volunteers met with Superintendent Kinzer for a forum on inclusion where they were able to share their thoughts about the culture at MHS, ways the district and building are helping students feel included, and areas for improvement.

Mason Middle School students will celebrate Inclusion Week in November, and students at MHS will continue to keep these themes at the forefront of their school days as they work to foster a culture of inclusion and belonging all year long.
