Drive-Thru Meal Pick Up for all Mason Public Schools students

Beginning Thursday, March 4, Mason Public Schools is changing food distribution to a one day per week pick up that will include a kit with 5 breakfasts and lunches for all Mason Public Schools’ students.

Pick up will continue at Mason Middle School and Mason High School on Thursdays from 4-6pm.

Mason, MI – At the April Mason Public Schools Board of Education meeting, the Board ratified the sale of the District’s Series II bonds. On March 17, the District successfully completed the Bond sale of the $19.2 million budgeted for the next phase of the District’s Capital Improvement Project. The District received strong competition for the Bonds, receiving six bids.

Mason, MI – The Michigan Department of Education has recently published the annual Bulletin 1014. In this report, Mason Public Schools (MPS) has maintained a ranking for low total business and administrative costs per student compared to other Michigan districts for the years ending June 30, 2015 – 2020.

This message is to provide further clarification regarding the switch for next week based on House Bill 4048 to offer a minimum of 20 hours of in-person instruction starting March 22, 2021. On Monday, March 15, the Board of Education will meet to consider offering 4 days of in-person instruction to all students beginning on March 22. Please read the message you received on Friday for information on HB 4048.

On March 9, Governor Whitmer signed House Bill 4048 which asks schools to offer at least 20 hours of in-person instruction to students beginning no later than March 22, 2021, or risk losing State funding. While following health/safety guidelines and providing exemplary learning opportunities remain Mason Public Schools’ goals, we also must consider the ongoing educational and financial impacts of the pandemic on our students and school system.

Late last week, a former employee of Mason Public Schools chose to speak to the media about the District’s instructional practices regarding educating our students on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). In regard to the incident in question, a former Mason teacher stated that their classroom would participate in the National Black Lives Matter In School “Week of Action”.

In anticipation of a majority of Mason staff receiving their second COVID-19 vaccine on Monday, February 8, all students will learn remotely on Tuesday, February 9. This will allow us to plan for heightened staff illness as many people have reported side effects after receiving the second vaccine causing concern over the ability to properly staff buildings for in-person instruction. Your child’s teacher will communicate with you regarding lessons for the day.
