Important Fall Sports Information

Although coaches may have communicated this information directly with families, it is important that families and the community understand all aspects of fall sports with the current direction.

Mason Public Schools (MPS) will be following the requirements included in the MI Safe Start plan with the guidance of the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA). Fall sports, which include boys football, girls volleyball, girls swimming and diving, boys tennis, girls golf, boys soccer, and boys and girls cross country will take place this fall with necessary restrictions and protocols.

For indoor sports, restrictions include:

  • Wearing masks during all sporting events and practices (with the exception of swimming and diving);
  • For competitions, an audience is limited to two guests of each athlete;
  • All coaches and athletes will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms and;
  • Concessions will not be sold at the venue.

For outdoor sports, restrictions include:

  • Wearing masks during all sporting events and practices;
  • For competitions, an audience is limited to two guests;
  • All coaches and athletes will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms and;
  • Concessions availability will be determined using guidance from the Ingham County Health Department.

Middle School sports will follow the MHSAA guidelines and MPS will be requiring these same rules be adhered to. Youth sports inquiries should be directed to the organization or coach for their schedule and guidelines.

Additionally, spring sports teams are permitted to meet up to 16 times from now until October 31 due to their seasons being cut short this year. Winter workouts will be directed by their coaches similar to previous seasons.
