Late last week, a former employee of Mason Public Schools chose to speak to the media about the District’s instructional practices regarding educating our students on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). In regard to the incident in question, a former Mason teacher stated that their classroom would participate in the National Black Lives Matter In School “Week of Action”.

On February 8, the Mason Public Schools Board of Education approved bids for over 20 construction contractors to begin work on Steele Elementary, which is part of Phase 2 of the Capital Improvement Project.

In anticipation of a majority of Mason staff receiving their second COVID-19 vaccine on Monday, February 8, all students will learn remotely on Tuesday, February 9. This will allow us to plan for heightened staff illness as many people have reported side effects after receiving the second vaccine causing concern over the ability to properly staff buildings for in-person instruction. Your child’s teacher will communicate with you regarding lessons for the day.

On February 1, the Board of Education approved an instructional plan for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year. The Board voted to continue following the current hybrid instructional model. This means general education students will either be participating in full-time distance learning or Blue Team/Red Team in-person hybrid instruction until June 9, 2021. Students in Learning Labs and special education basic classrooms will continue on their current plan for the remainder of the year.

Last fall, Mason Public Schools (MPS) officially cut the ribbon to open the new tennis courts at Mason High School. Prior to the home opener match against Williamston, Board of Education members, players, coaches, and parents helped the District celebrate the occasion.

At the November 9 Board of Education Meeting, the Board voted to upgrade the District’s heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system and install an air cleaning method as an additional measure to keep students and staff safe from airborne pathogens and COVID-19.
