Nigeria has been ranked among the lowest countries for educational attainment in the world. Paul Kato, Mason High School teacher, has been leading a project to help change this. After working to establish a residential “soccer” school in Nigeria for 10 years, the school officially opened in 2018 and now is celebrating the completion of its first year.

Mason Public Schools has announced the recent hiring of a new Chief Finance Officer to the team. Adrienne Barna will join Mason Public Schools beginning July 1, 2019. Ms. Barna will transition into this role after the retirement of Cheryl Wald on June 30.

This week, Ingham Intermediate School District (ISD) hosted the 19th Annual Ingham Student Art Exhibit in conjunction with the Lansing Art Gallery and the Michigan Education Leadership Group (MELG). Mason Public Schools students lead the pack with a very strong showing in this year’s event. Out of the 50 total pieces selected, 13 winning entries are from Mason students.

The Michigan Department of Education has recently published the annual Bulletin 1014 for the 2017-18 school year. This report ranks Michigan Public School Districts by selected financial data. Again, Mason Public Schools (MPS) has maintained an efficient record for total business and administrative costs per student, compared to other Michigan districts for the year ending June 30, 2018 by keeping expenditures low.

On Tuesday, May 7, 2019, voters in Mason Public Schools will be asked to vote on the RENEWAL of the 18 mill non-homestead property tax millage last approved by voters in 2010. This is not a tax paid by homeowners on their primary residences. School districts must levy a local property tax of 18 mills on non-homestead property - business, industrial, commercial, rental property and second homes - in order to receive its full per pupil funding.
