COVID-19

Mason Public Schools will share updates received from the Ingham County Health Department (ICHD) on this COVID-19 Dashboard.

As required by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), effective October 12, 2020.  The 'Cumulative Confirmed Cases' counts below are from August 1, 2021 to present.

Ingham County Health Department Guidance for Schools

Mason Public Schools will work with the ICHD to receive and share data regarding school-associated cases. The ICHD determines what is a probable or confirmed case. According to MDHHS, a “school associated case” means a case of probable or confirmed COVID-19 amongst students, teachers, staff members, coaches, volunteers or any other person who was present on school property or at a school function under circumstances that may result in the transmission or contraction of COVID-19 during their infectious period. As directed by the MDHHS, the ICHD must share probable or confirmed cases with schools within 24 hours. Schools will then post the information received in a public place within 24 hours of notification from the health department.

We will continue to work with ICHD to ensure the safety of our students, families, and staff.  To ensure the health and well-being of our school community, we have taken several steps to minimize the spread of COVID-19.

Due to the continued changes in guidance locally and at the state level, the following will be implemented for MPS beginning February 19 at midnight:

  • As masks continue to be a valuable tool in limiting the spread of COVID-19, MPS is recommending but not requiring masking inside District buildings for staff and students regardless of vaccination status or age level.
  • Students and staff are still required to wear masks on school buses and in Head Start programs based on federal guidelines.
  • Students and staff are still required to continue monitoring their daily health and/or symptoms, however, completing the health screening form will no longer be a requirement.
  • Social distancing will continue to be encouraged when possible.
  • MPS is still required to report positive cases of COVID-19 under Michigan’s Communicable Disease legislation. Our team will be assisting the Ingham County Health Department with contact tracing and identification of individuals who need to quarantine.
    • If an individual is identified as a close contact, they will need to mask for 10 days to remain in-person if they continue to test negative.
    • Test-to-Stay will remain an option for unvaccinated individuals to avoid quarantining. This will continue to be by invitation only for school-based close contacts. Testing will need to take place on days 3 and 5 and a mask must be worn through day 10.
    • MPS will provide direction, using guidance from the ICHD, based on circumstances for individual cases.
  • Student-athletes will not be required to wear a mask during active play or on the sidelines unless they are visiting an opponent District that requires masking.

Students and staff are asked to continue to be respectful of each other’s personal choices with regard to mask-wearing.
